Hoar Frost

We woke this morning to a beautiful thick hoar frost covering everything.  I grabbed my camera and headed down to the nearby state park.  The photos don't even do justice to how beautiful and fragile the frost really was.  I wish I could have figured out how to take some home with me intact!  I wasn't the only one out enjoying it either - I met many fantastic people along the trails that were as awed as I was by it.  Here are some of my favorite photos from this morning.

A New Look

I have decided it is time to give my blog a NEW LOOK again!  Please be patient with me and check back often while I make changes (and probably change my mind and make more changes!) to the design in the spare time I have here and there.  My Etsy store will also undergo a transformation and will be updated with new items in the next few weeks too!

Expecting

I had the great pleasure to photograph this sweet expecting couple yesterday.  Little W's nursery room was lovely, complete with an adorable little rocking chair that belonged to mom-to-be when she was little.  Here are a few of my favorites from their session.

Happy 6th Birthday!

I have been photographing this young man on his birthday for the past three years now, and I can honestly say that this session yesterday was one of the most enjoyable outdoor winter sessions I've had!  No heavy winter jackets, mittens, scarves and boots to deal with, no snow, no bitterly cold windchills (which is what we're supposed to have in Minnesota in January).  Instead, we broke the record high with a temperature of 55 degrees and had no snow because well, because it hasn't snowed to speak of here yet! 

All that is about to change tho, according to our weather forecasters, who say that the snow is expected late this afternoon and by tomorrow, our high will only reach 14 degrees.  Only in Minnesota, right?  :)  But at least we got some fun photos that won't be his "typical" birthday photos!  Happy birthday, C!

Color or Black and White?

It's interesting how removing the color in a photograph can change the entire feel of it.

I took this photo today as the late afternoon winter sun was low in the sky.  I played with the color saturation because I wanted it to have a vintage feel that might perhaps invoke feelings of nostalgic childhood memories for the viewer.

As I was changing the colors, I accidentally changed it to black and white.  Instantly the mood of the photo went (in my opinion) from happy memories to a stark, almost tragic feel. 

What do you think?

Is it Spring?

Now don't get me wrong, I love this spring-like weather we've been having lately.  But it just feels wrong, somehow, when I can go outside without a jacket in January in Minnesota and there's no snow and the temperature is in the mid 40s.

A couple more days of potential record highs close to 50, and then the Minnesota winter weather comes back full force - snow and 14 degrees for the high!

Expecting twins

I met this lovely couple and their energetic dog Moose this morning to take family and maternity photos for them.  They're expecting twins in early March, and I am looking forward to meeting and photographing their newest little additions when they arrive!

K & L Wedding Reception

Frisco & Tuesday

Meet Frisco and Tuesday.  Are these gorgeous cats, or what?  Although you wouldn't know it by looking at the photos, Tuesday (the charcoal grey) was very shy and preferred to stay just out of camera range for much of the session.  Frisco, however, enjoyed inspecting the camera lens "close up" every so often!  I love the photos we got with a little bit of patience, a few cat toys and some tasty snacks! ;o))

Here's a sneak peek from this afternoon's session with a dear family.  Even tho we weren't able to bring the chair outside, we still got a lot of great shots! ;o))  I usually try to post 5 or 6 photos from each session here, but since my computer is acting so slow tonite, this is all you get for now.  Sorry!
